In
the fall of 2000, Brandt Construction, Inc. was selected based
upon reputation, experience, fee, and budget for the construction
of a 13,700 square foot dining hall. The dining hall is a two
story conventionally wood framed building with a poured concrete
wall walkout basement. The building consisted of a large dining
area, a full size serving kitchen, offices, staff lounge, screened
in porch, and three large meeting rooms. The exterior design features
include wood reverse board and batten cedar siding, Brown County
rubble stone and a massive stone fireplace chimney. On the
interior there is exposed timber trusses, exposed spiral HVAC
ductwork, two large wood burning fireplaces, and wood wainscot.
Features:
The
project involved three primary challenges. First,
it was necessary to begin the site work and foundation prior
to the completion of the construction documents. Second,
a large amount of rock removal was required to accommodate the
basement and utility rough-ins. Third, the entire structural
system was built in the coldest and wettest December and January
weather in recent history.
- Due to the location of the building and the
existing terrain, several hundred feet of concrete retaining
walls were needed.
- BCI’s talented craftsmen performed all
of the concrete, rough carpentry, millwork, exterior trim, and
specialty work.
