In December of 2006, the renovation of Herron High School was awarded to Brandt Construction, Inc. This project was started at the end of January 2007 and was substantially completed for the start of school on August 21, 2007. This project included the renovation of interior spaces and the installation of new windows in openings per the original configuration. It also included extensive retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems to provide necessary function for a modern school. Brandt Construction, Inc. worked closely with the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Committee and Ratio Architects to maintain historical integrity.

Features:

  • Custom shop built windows to match configuration from archive photographs with insulated glass to meet modern energy requirements.

  • Installation of dry sprinkler system to meet school requirements yet hidden in untempered attic space to reduce visual impact.

  • Restoration of original plaster detailing in 2nd floor curved ceilings.

  • Extensive renovation and repair of transoms in installation of new 8.0 doors to closely match original configuration.

  • Installation of LULA (limited use, limited access) elevator for staff and ADA use.
