The original building for St. Francis in-the-Fields Episcopal Church was built in 1968 as a simple mission church with a nave to seat 90 people. In January of 1998, the latest addition was completed. This included the following four phases: the enlargement of the nave, a parish hall addition, a new entry porch and vestibule, and an outdoor columbarium. In order to maintain intimacy and the traditional nave seating, the existing rectangular church was opened up into a historical cruciform plan to provide seating for 300. Interior and exterior finishes are designed and detailed to continue the simple colonial style of the old nave. The parish hall addition includes four classrooms divided by an operable partition. This allows the flexibility of making the four classrooms into a large meeting room. The corridor into the parish hall is oversized to serve as a gathering or social area. This church was dedicated in February of 1998.

Features:

  • All four phases were completed at the same time without relocating the churches daily activities and Sunday services.
  • The new finishes in the nave were adjusted and mocked-up six times to allow the closest match to existing finish.
  • The interior finishes include carpet, ceramic and hardwood floors, 2 x 2 acoustical tile with cove edges, laminated decking and trim, and arched windows for natural light.
  • The project was brought in under the churches $1,000,000 budget thanks to the teamwork and dedication of all designers and contractors.
  • The columbarium has the capacity of over 100 niches.
