In
the summer of 1999, Brandt Construction, Inc. was hired as a general
contractor to help assist in the design phase and to construct
a 16,000SF Meeting House at the Village of West Clay. The Meeting
House is a three story Greek Revival structure. The building consisted
of an auditorium, meeting rooms, banquet facilities, a dance area
and a club room. Design features include exterior bluestone pavers,
an exterior clock, a fountain and a cupola. Completion of challenging
projects is not new to Brandt Construction, Inc. However, Brenwick
Development added a degree of difficulty by previously scheduling
a home show on June 30, 2000, which over 20,000 people would attend.
Also, unforeseen delays with the permit process delayed the start
date from August to late September, 1999. Timely coordination
and decision making between Brenwick Development, Ratio Architects,
Inc., and Brandt Construction, Inc. along with committed subcontractors
and the dedication and skill of Brandt Construction, Inc.’s
craftsmen allowed this originally scheduled ten and one half month
project to be completed in nine months, at 12:00 p.m. on June
30, 2000.
Features:
- The project involved three primary challenges. One was a tight
schedule, the second was the limited site accessibility and
work area, and third the coordination and scheduling of site
utilities through this 160 acres of property.
- All the perimeter curbs and asphalt roads were being constructed
simultaneously and were being used by the other contractors
developing the site.
- In addition to these two buildings, there were dozens of
show homes and a handful of other smaller commercial projects
being built.
- Prior to Brandt Construction, Inc. starting work, this site
was a 160 acre corn field.
- Temporary electricity was first provided by generators, and
subsequently by thousands of feet of power line draped across
the West Clay site.
