Built
originally in the early 1920’s to provide basic housing
for young women, the Blue Triangle Residence Hall served as a
YWCA dormitory for nearly 50 years. This building features the
high quality materials and attractive design which characterize
historic buildings. After the YWCA moved their facilities to a
suburban location in 1971, the Blue Triangle stood vacant for
twenty-five years. No one could adapt the Blue Triangle to a new
use due to its unusual floor plan and solid construction until
this building reopened to serve its original purpose of safe,
attractive, and basic housing for single adults.
Features:
This
building contains 96 furnished apartments.
- The lobby is anchored by a massive tile fireplace
and features tall windows, polished terrazzo floors and plaster
crown mold.
- Each residential floor features a shared kitchen.
- This building includes space rented by Social
Services to help tenants find a job.
- 75% of the exterior brick was restored or
replaced.
- 25% of windows were crafted with original
material due to historical requirements.
