Project Name: IPS - J.A.
Garfield Elementary School #31
Project Scope: The Renovations to James A. Garfield
IPS #31 began early January 2010. The project consists of completely
demolishing the existing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
and replacing them with new up to date efficient systems. Along
with the MEP system upgrades, interior upgrades include: carpet
and VCT replacement, masonry wall reconfigurations, new paint,
terrazzo repairs, installation of new acoustical ceiling throughout,
and the addition of an elevator. The project is attempting LEED
Certification, and is hopeful to obtain LEED Silver. Building
attributes that will contribute to LEED Certification include;
efficient energy systems, indoor air quality measures, air testing,
recycled material content, regional materials, and many more eco-friendly
practices. This project is Brandt Construction Inc.’s first
LEED construction project, and is full of new requirements, submittal
protocol’s, and should prove to be a valuable learning experience
for the Brandt Team. The most challenging aspects of the project
include schedule, LEED requirements, and protecting existing building
systems that must remain active during construction, (fire alarm
and security). Brandt Construction Inc. looks forward to completing
the project in early July, allowing enough time for IPS to occupy
the building at the start of the new school year.
Project Status: Terrazzo floors on first floor
to be stripped and waxed. Exterior is partially washed, sealed
work to continue.
