In
February of 1996, Brandt Construction, Inc. was hired as the construction
manager for St. Luke United Methodist Church's, “Expect
a Miracle Project”. Brandt Construction, Inc.’s initial
responsibility was to provide preliminary budgets and scheduling
for the overall construction of the project. To meet the owner’s
use and occupancy requirements, the project was divided into three
major phases. These were the classroom addition and remodel, addition
of the sanctuary and narthex, and conversion of existing sanctuary
space into a spiritual life center and prayer chapel. These phases
also included many sub projects, such as extensive site and parking
modification, remodel of the fellowship hall, and addition of
a columbarium. During the course of the 24 month construction
period there were 2 major OSHA inspections, each resulting in
no violations.
Features:
Phase
I involved the addition of an education wing, which was constructed
of structural steel, masonry block and brick walls, limestone
exterior trim and copper roofing. It included 18 classrooms,
4 restrooms, a kitchen, and a state of the art choir practice
facility.
- Phase II included a new 1,700 seat sanctuary. Clerestory
windows light the ceiling which soars to a breathtaking 75 feet.
Extensive rift cut red oak trim work, flooring and wall panels
fill the pulpit area. Also involved was the renovation of an
existing fellowship hall and classrooms, and an addition of
a new multi-use narthex.
- Phase III included main entry walks with brick pavers that
lead to a new columbarium built of limestone, brick and granite.
It also involved the renovation of existing areas into a spiritual
life study room with fireplace and library. In addition, the
front parking lot was expanded.
